Coinciding with 2 leading international Civilian Security trade fairs being hosted in Nîmes – Aerial Fire Fighting Europe and “Search and Rescue” – Openimes and Nîmes Métropole unveil the ambitious project, BaseCamp.
Today, the Nîmes Metropolitan area is home to 6 military units, the largest French police academy and, since 2017, the national Civilian security base, with their search and rescue helicopters and water bomber planes, including the famous Canadair©. This powerful force is now paving the way for a project that’s even greater still: BaseCamp.
Its aim is to create a centre of excellence in Civilian security on 650 ha around the Nîmes airport. There, agents, companies, startups and laboratories will find equipment, services and a uniquely collaborative dynamic to help them design, test and market innovative solutions.
Centres of expertise will be created:
- SIM, centre for aircraft and Civilian security unit coordination training and simulation.
- TARGET, shooting range for aerial firefighter pilot training.
- ROBOT, testing ground for drones and robots in natural disaster settings.
- DEPLOY, dedicated to emergency logistics and medicine.
BaseCamp, which will also include a startup incubator, conference rooms, accommodation and dining areas, aims to be the first Living Lab for Civilian security in Europe, and a true catalyst for innovation and growth for industrialists in the Security industry!
